Ford Motor is revving up the game with a spectacular 7% surge in U.S. sales, marking its best performance since the pre-pandemic days of 2020.
While they may not have clinched the top spot in the overall U.S. sales race, falling behind Toyota and General Motors, Ford’s nearly 2 million vehicle sales in 2023 are nothing short of impressive, especially in a year riddled with labor strikes and supply snags.
But wait, there’s more: Ford’s 7.1% growth may seem like a sweet victory, but it’s trailing behind the industry’s overall meteoric rise.
The auto industry, bouncing back like a phoenix from the ashes, reported a staggering 15.6 million vehicles sold last year, a whopping 12.3% jump from 2022.
This feat marks the industry’s best performance since the heady days of 2019 when over 17 million vehicles were sold.
Talk about a comeback story!
Ford CEO Jim Farley couldn’t hide his excitement, boasting about the company’s diverse range of gas, electric, and hybrid vehicles. “We have the products that customers want,” Farley exclaimed, clearly riding high on the sales success.
The electric vehicle frontier is where Ford truly electrified the market.
With a robust 18% growth from 2022, Ford sold an eye-popping 72,608 EVs in 2023.
The fourth quarter alone saw nearly 26,000 EVs flying off the shelves, supercharged by the electric F-150 Lightning pickup, which itself saw a jaw-dropping 74% increase in sales.
And let’s not forget the Mustang Mach-E, setting record annual sales since its launch in 2021.
But here’s the twist: Despite these electrifying numbers, electrified vehicles, including hybrids and EVs, only accounted for about 10% of Ford’s total sales in 2023.
However, hybrid sales saw a significant 25% increase over the year and an astonishing 55% in the fourth quarter alone.
And for the grand finale: Ford’s F-Series, America’s favorite for 47 years, continued its reign as the best-selling truck and vehicle in the U.S. for the 42nd year in a row.
With over 750,000 units sold last year, up by a robust 15% from the previous year, the F-Series remains an undisputed champion.
In a nutshell, Ford is charging ahead full throttle, navigating through industry challenges with unparalleled gusto and proving that it’s not just about selling cars – it’s about driving innovation and capturing the American spirit.
